2017 Annual Meeting

A conversation with Sen Wieckowski, led by Pauline Weaver and Sue Lemke, featured information about his concerns about access to justice for low income Californians with diminished funding for legal aid, SB16, reduction of interest rates for student loans, wage garnishments that specifically impact the poor, and his new bill SB407 which addresses free speech in Home Owners’ Associations.

The Senator’s background as a leader in environmental issues and his work as a bankruptcy attorney are reflected in some of his proposed bills before the legislature. He is also in favor of changes in Prop 13 so that business pays its fair share. The monies gained by proposed changes could lead to restoring funds for education.
